PRECISION MACHINING AND PRE-PRODUCTION PLANNING Your order begins at a pre-production and engineering meeting. GEM's engineers and production team review your prints and decide on the most efficient process for production. Next, our engineering department issues process prints and documents that highlight details important to each machinist. These drawings clarify specifications, secure conversions, and highlight critical dimensions. This extra step diminishes any potential for operator error as the part moves through production. In addition, our pre-engineering strengthens the integrity of each part's critical dimensions in a second way - by anticipating distortions and preventing them. Processes, such as heat treating or plating, may affect material sizes. To offset a variance, like expansion, our process documents may tighten parameters on a first operation to allow for variances on a second. Our planning assures that your finished part or assembly conforms exactly to print specifications. QUALITY We chart critical features throughout the manufacturing process using our statistical process control(SPC) program. Our disciplined approach guarantees a quality product. For each machining sequence, operators complete a formal start-up report, ensuring that they understand their part of the process - and subsequent processing relevant to their operation. This report improves material flow and eliminates the potential for operator error. Identification documents are attached to all lots ensuring complete traceability. Each part is sampled by our quality inspectors. If the part doesn't pass our AQL criteria, it doesn't ship. EFFICIENCY - FOR ON-TIME DELIVERIES Tool Room Capabilities. Our tool room experts and capabilities eliminate downtime in replacing damaged or worn tooling. An uncommon asset among today's machining companies, our tool-making capacity gives us improved efficiency, floor control, and quality you can depend on. State -of-the-art CNC machinery. Complementing our 35+ conventional machines, we have more than 15 state-of-the art CNC turning, saws, Horizontal and Vertical Machining centers. 40% of these centers are less than 5 years old. We invest only in the best: super-precision equipment built to perform. State-of-the-art conventional equipment with add-on tooling. All operate with add-on tooling enabling us to produce parts to closer tolerances than standard turning machines. Zero-datum insertable tooling, along with high-capacity cut-off saws and other specialized equipment, increases our productivity - often eliminating the need for secondary operations.
