DESCRIPTION:
GEM Manufacturing, Inc. an independent manufacturer of machined components/parts for industrial, military, agricultural, food processing and material handling applications - is seeking 1st and 2nd shift CNC Setup/Programmers for its operations in Bristol, WI.

THE POSITION:
The CNC Setup/Programmer sets up and operates computerized numeric control machine to perform a complex series of progressive machining operations to meet precise tolerance and finish requirement for our customers. As a vital part of the shop floor team, the qualified candidate will work on equipment setup, routinely inspects parts to ensure high quality, and offers suggestions to make improvements were possible. These newly created positions are now available due to tremendous growth, so opportunities for advancement are available. Good communication skills with all levels within the organization are required, and the desire to roll up your sleeves is necessary!
  • Produces manufactured parts, sets up equipment, routinely inspects parts to ensure high quality.

  • Reviews blueprints and methods sheet to determine setup procedure, machining sequence, and dimensions of finished work piece. Determines where program exists from previous run.

  • When a new program is needed, devises one based on blueprint and on the steps on the methods sheet, from lists of choices provided by the options menu. Selects material, inside/outside diameter, jaw, starting and ending dimensions, steps of processing including bore, face, finish turn, groove etc. Works with detailed and involved part drawings and specs. Submits in process revisions when improvements on existing jobs can be made due to new equipment, insight of Operator etc.

  • Attaches chuck jaws to machine, and machines jaws according to setup instructions. Assembles cutting tools in tool holders and positions tool holders in machine turret as specified or inserts cutting tools in specified machine holders. Manipulates controls and enters commands to index cutting tool to specified and to start the machine.

  • Inserts stock piece, closes door, punches appropriate controls to start and stop the process. Changes cutting tools, and location of work piece during machining process on semi-automatic machines as specified in setup instructions. Observes and listens to machine operation to detect malfunctions such as worn or damaged cutting tools. Removes debris with compressed air as needed between steps. Replaces tools as necessary. Removes burrs on finished parts. May machine materials other than metals such as composites.

  • Measures work piece for conformance to specifications using a variety of precision measuring instruments such as caliper, micrometer or plug (go/no go) gauge provided. Changes tooling to machine parts according to specifications when tooling malfunctions. Performs offsets and program edits as needed, to improve machine operations. Revises tool data in program as necessary, to correct tolerances. Notifies supervisor of discrepancies that cannot be corrected. May operate several machines simultaneously. May receive advanced training in CNC programming as experience progresses.

  • May perform setup and readjust settings for other operators when Lead Person(s) are unavailable. Serves as a good 'role model' to Trainee and Operators of less skill and experience. May conduct performance observation test evaluations of Mazak training program for Lead Persons responsible.

  • Performs daily maintenance to ensure equipment and work area are clean and organized at all times.

THE REQUIREMENTS:
  • Minimum of 2 years experience with setup and programming. Preferably with Mazak machines. Must be capable of assisting operators with production and inspections. Good communication skills a must.
  • Must be capable of reviewing prints and performing inspections using calipers and micrometers
